Jose Ramirez is now in the top 10 in 20/20 seasons

Jose Ramirez just missed a 40/40 season (39 HRs, 43 SBs). But it was his 6th 20/20 season. The table below shows the leaders in 20/20 seasons.

Every guy in the top 10 is an outfielder except Ramirez and AROD.

Ramirez just had his age 31 season. How many more 20/20 seasons might he have? There have been six guys to have two 20/20 seasons at age 32 and older. They were:

Bobby Abreu
Barry Bonds
Brady Anderson
Bobby Bonds
Joe Morgan
Henry Aaron

But it might be easier to steal now with the new bases and rules. SBs per game were about 40% higher in 2023-24 than in 2021-22. And SB% is up about 4 percentage points. But SBs per game are up only about 12% compared to 2012.

So there might not be any right way to make an adjustment. So I just decided to look at 20/15 seasons at age 32 and up. Maybe a guy who stole 15 bases in a past year would have stolen 20 under the new rules and bases.

Here are all the guys who had 3 20/15 seasons at age 32 or older

Mike Cameron
Reggie Sanders
Barry Bonds
Steve Finley
Henry Aaron

These are all OFers. Now the guys who did it twice.

Jose Altuve
Alfonso Soriano
Torii Hunter
Bobby Abreu
Gary Sheffield
Paul O'Neill
Brady Anderson
Andres Galarraga
Bobby Bonds
Joe Morgan
Ken Williams

Mostly OFers but Altuve, Galarraga and Morgan are infielders. Galarraga gives Ramirez some hope since he was not known for speed.

So maybe Ramirez could get a couple more 20/20 seasons. But catching up to the Bonds family does not seem likely. He was 17-10 in the 60 game Covid season, so he may have lost one then.
