Alomar's...Thanks for dropping by an commenting. Alomar's % was the first one I saw in the article I read about the vote, so I knew I had at least one good prediction. But then I saw Martninez and Larkin. The standard error in my regression was around .07, so they were both about 3 standard errors above what I predicted. Also the size of the difference between what they got and what I predicted is very close to the biggest differenttials in my data set from the initial study. Maybe that means the voters attitudes are changing. I hope so. Maybe Edgar has a chance.

Look at Billy Williams. Here is how his vote progressed:

1982 BBWAA (23.4%)
1983 BBWAA (40.9%)
1984 BBWAA (50.1%)
1985 BBWAA (63.8%)
1986 BBWAA (74.1%)
1987 BBWAA (85.7%)

Now Jim Rice

1995 BBWAA (29.8%)
1996 BBWAA (35.3%)
1997 BBWAA (37.6%)
1998 BBWAA (42.9%)
1999 BBWAA (29.4%)
2000 BBWAA (51.5%)
2001 BBWAA (57.9%)
2002 BBWAA (55.1%)
2003 BBWAA (52.2%)
2004 BBWAA (54.5%)
2005 BBWAA (59.5%)
2006 BBWAA (64.8%)
2007 BBWAA (63.5%)
2008 BBWAA (72.2%)
2009 BBWAA (76.4%)

So they both started lower than Martinez. One shot up really fast and the other took a long time to make it, but they both did.

But look at Steve Garvey. In some ways, he has credentials that the voters often like. But he started out higher than Martinez and never made it.

1993 BBWAA (41.6%)
1994 BBWAA (36.4%)
1995 BBWAA (42.6%)
1996 BBWAA (37.2%)
1997 BBWAA (35.3%)
1998 BBWAA (41.2%)
1999 BBWAA (30.2%)
2000 BBWAA (32.1%)
2001 BBWAA (34.2%)
2002 BBWAA (28.4%)
2003 BBWAA (27.8%)
2004 BBWAA (24.3%)
2005 BBWAA (20.5%)
2006 BBWAA (26.0%)
2007 BBWAA (21.1%)

The Mariners sent out a very detailed email to all the voters on how good Martinez was. Maybe that helped. And as new voters slowly come in who have more knowledge and respect for the newer, sabermetric stats, I think he might make it. Plus he seems to have been very popular among the fans, played for just one team and did not seem to be involved in any scandals.Cyril Moronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07148864847009186694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-608528753722196209.post-74264444309860724922010-01-08T00:12:02.955-08:002010-01-08T00:12:02.955-08:00Great call on Alomar's votes. I think he may eventually but not anytime soon.fantasyconsultantshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10305006574329127503noreply@blogger.com
