One thing that helps him in the 2nd table is a long career, over 10,000 PAs. He had -2 FRAA over his career, so that is just about average. I am not claiming FRAA is the only way to go. When I get time I might try to get the fielding runs from Baseball Reference in there and see what happens. Baseball reference has him at -1 runs from fielding.

When Finley started hitting for power, his SBs did go down. But he still had a fair number of triples.Cyril Moronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07148864847009186694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-608528753722196209.post-84487812496933827262012-08-10T08:10:35.841-07:002012-08-10T08:10:35.841-07:00Finley is always a fun career trajectory to look a...Finley is always a fun career trajectory to look at. I have found him to pop up in some of my other comparisons higher up on lists than I would expect (i.e. Hall of Fame prediction models).

If you look at his career, he completely changed the type of player he was right in the middle of it. Early on he was a single digit HR and lots of SB guy. Then, he became a 30 HR per year guy. I'd be curious to see if there are any other career trajectories that follow such an extreme dichotomy as Finley's.

I don't know much about FRAA, but I know Finley is overall strongly negative on the Fangraphs fielding metric (whatever they use). In my HOF analyses I have not included fielding.BMMillsyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05121540047611227512noreply@blogger.com
